Innermost Echoes is a continuous performance project and research where a robotic KOTO is played and influenced by the real-time physiological data of both the performers and the audience.

[This description is adapted from the researchers' own explanation of the project, which can be found here: https://www.dannyhynds.com/multimedia.]
The deliberate illustration of several fragments of the KOTO instrument and its materialization create a composition where these elements are connected by a wire, symbolizing the 'robotic' aspect of the project.
KOTO (箏 or 琴) is the national instrument of Japan. A long, wooden stringed instrument made from Paulownia wood (Paulownia tomentosa, known as kiri) that is plucked to make music. The most common koto has 13 strings stretched over small movable bridges, which can be adjusted to change the tuning depending on the music played.
